“The best of both worlds? Making hybrid work” webinar
As society gradually returns to a semblance of normalcy, businesses are navigating the future of work. While a minority are embracing either remote-only working or the traditional 9-5 office day, the majority are seeking to combine the benefits of both through hybrid work. Pretty sound reasoning—after all, while many relished the freedom of home-working during the pandemic, people also reported missing the interactivity of the office environment. So could hybrid be the best of both worlds?

As with any new territory, there is much for businesses to navigate, and no two organisations will take the same approach. The pandemic demonstrated the agility and resilience of workforces, but embracing a new mode of work will take time, and teething problems are to be expected. Technology has given businesses the tools to deliver greater flexibility with the same level of productivity, but for hybrid work to prove a successful and sustainable model for the long term, opportunities must be weighed and risks carefully considered.

Programmed by The Economist Events and sponsored by Google Workspace The best of both worlds? Making hybrid work examines how businesses are navigating a hybrid model of work. Convening business leaders, consultants and thought leaders examine how opportunities can be harnessed, challenges overcome and risks mitigated. The questions addressed include:

  • What do we mean by hybrid work, and how is it being organised?
  • What opportunities could hybrid work offer for businesses and their employees?
  • How can the potentially negative consequences of hybrid work, such as the marginalisation of employees and a lack of social inclusion, be mitigated?
  • What changes will be required to offices, and what are employees looking for from the physical work space?
  • How can technology facilitate collaboration and communication between employees?
  • What does hybrid work mean for frontline workers? Can they reap any of the benefits, or could hybrid work perpetuate the social divide?
